Stafford Township Historical Society




Stafford Township: 1749 - present


Stafford Township was chartered on March 3, 1749. Up until then, the land had been part of Shrewsbury Township, Monmouth County. Stafford included all land now belonging to Waretown, Barnegat and much of the area south of present day Stafford, including Eagleswood. Also included was a large part of Long Beach Island.



2017 Meetings

Our regular meetings are held at 7pm at 120 North Main St, Manahawkin at the Old Baptist Church on the 3rd wednesday of every month unless otherwise noted.

Meeting Happenings


May 17 meeting: We are meeting at the Old Baptist Church (120 N. Rt 9, Manahawkin ) at 6:30 for a 7pm meeting at the Cedar Bridge Tavern to see all the building changes that Ocean County is doing to rehabilitate the historic structure.



Yearly Events


Summer Concert Series will be held every Monday, from July 10, 2017 to Aug 28, 2017, at the Manahawkin Lake Park in front of the new pavilion on the lake in Manahawkin. Parking is available at the park entrance on North Lakeshore Drive next to the Old Baptist Church. Concerts start at 7 PM and go until 9 PM. Concerts are free but a $1.00 donation is encouraged.

Veterans Day - Nov 11, 2017 at 10:30am. Ceremonies will take place at the Historical Baptist Church (Cultural Center) on Rt 9 including guided walking tours of Stafford historic sites and the ringing of the church bell at 11 am.

235rd Anniversary of the Skirmish at Cedar Bridge - Dec 17, 2017 @ 2pm - come see an interpretation of the last battle of the American Revolutionary war
(Dec 27, 1782) on location at Cedar Bridge Tavern in Barnegat.
